Natural Selection marks the apex of Martyn's string of dubstep eps, both tracks appearing as highlights on his debut album Great Lengths. On Natural Selection, he pairs retro synths with a trippy deep vocal to great effect. He also utilizes one of the vocal samples from a former track All I have Is Memories to add to the background atmospherics.
But the true highlight of the ep is Vancouver. The ultra-deep rolling bassline matches the percussion perfectly. The instantly-recognizable lead synth evokes a distinct underground vibe unique in dubstep (most similar to those of 2562)--a more techno-based sound than his London dubstep counterparts. And as with Natural Selection, Martyn includes an appropriately dark vocal. 5/5
