Mary J. Blige is forever known as the Queen of R & B/Hip-Hop/Soul. This is one of her first hits and was an entirely new innovative sound created by and based on a musical vision by a then young record executive named Sean "Puffy" Combs. This new sound was basically a fusion between R & B/Soul and Hip-Hop where Soulful vocals were sung over Hip-Hop beats and was a precursor to other forms of R & B to come like New Jack Swing for example. Some could even argue that Mary J was the female version of the group Jodeci who was also signed to Puffy's groundbreaking label Uptown Records.

One of my favorite Mary J cuts, very deep and classy. Puff Daddy uses a sample from "Money (Dollar Bill Y'all)", an early hip hop / electro classic by Jimmy Spicer, and turns it into a downtempo gem akin to his doper-than-dope remix of Method Man "I'll Be There For You / You're All I Need to Get By". Big big big !
