Massonix ‎– Subtracks

Graham Massey is a weirdo. Come on, you knew that before you bought this right? Judging by the reletive low scores this record gets, i would bet most people were expecting something more 808 State like. Well, i think many of the trademark melodies of days gone by are still intact, and i would argue that this record has the same strange attraction to odd time signatures that 808's last record "Outpost Transmission" had. I quite liked Outpost Transmission, and i quite like this one too. It's kinda like O.T., but underwater....and on Skam no less. When i say that i am not referring to Jega Skam, or Bola Skam, and certainly not BOC Skam, but rather Weavie Stonder Skam, or Team Doyobi Skam. Does that help? It has taken many listens to start wrestling the logic out of this album, but given that i put O.T. through the same paces and ended up liking it in the end, i would say that this is worth a similar effort if you are a fan of 808's recent material, as this record follows in suit. I gave it a 4/5 rating, because its by no means a classic, but I would recommend it as a bit of an oddity that still has a strong musical underpulse to the proceedings.
