Anthologies like this are great news for those who dont have the time, money, shelf space or trainspotter tendencies to make owning all the original 12" singles a viable option. Both this and volume 2 are worth investigating for a broad overview of the MAW output between 1990 and 2000. With a slightly revised tracklisting they could have been utterly compelling. I guess it must have come down to licencing arangements. For example on the volume we have Ce Ce Penistons "Crazy Love" and Lisa Stansfield's "Set Your Lovin Free" - neither of which are "classic" by any stretch, but not a sign of Mel'sa Morgans' "Still in Love", the MAW dub of Kathy Brown's "Can't Play Around" or their excellent mix of Double Exposure's "10 percent". Maybe when they do a 20 year MAW box set in 2010 these will be included!

My deepest respect to Masters at Work! They created such incredible vibes with their tracks, especially in the period 1990-1995. No matter if you like it deep and nasty or cheerful and energized, you can find it all on here.
