MERZBOW is name that carries undeniable clout in the noise world but sometimes it's easy to forget why with his current never ending stream of mediocre laptop noise. Before the digital switch MERZBOW released albums with a characteristically uncompromising and all encompassing in sound. Venereology is one of those albums. From the first second it is clear MERZBOW is taking no prisoners. Layers and layers of thick rumbling noise, constantly churning explodes from the speakers. Unlike Killer Bug or Masonna who split and slice piercing feedback like some kind of psychedelic disco ball of death, reflecting shards of pain everywhere, MERZBOW simply dominates all ranges of frequencies with punishing walls of sonic destruction. There's something happening in every inch of space leaving no respite for the listener. It's an endurance test for the listener not because its too heavy or harsh, but because there is so much to pay attention to it becomes hard to focus. Your mind runs in so many directions simultaneously that eventually you have to give into a Zen state of submission.
