Apache is that one song that you couldn't possibly get tired of hearing. It's the one song that no matter where it plays, be it a supermarket, cafeteria line, yoga class, math test, or wherever, that will even lift the flattest of feet. I hope I never hear this at a urinal or I'll accidentally piss on my shoes while uncontrollably busting some uprock.

Other than being the b-boy national (now international) anthem, it's just a damn fine song, and one that is all too often overlooked whenever your favorite message board has a poll for the top 100 albums or songs of all time.

This record features "the national anthem of hip hop" (Popmaster Fabel, Rock Steady Crew), 'Apache'. Along with Babe Ruth's 'The Mexican' and James Brown's 'Give it up, Turn it loose', the track is one of the most revered of the pre-rap hip hop era, when DJs such as Bambaataa, Kool DJ Herc and Flash were kings and the b-boys their loyal subjects.Don't make the mistake of neglecting the rest of the album, though. The LP is quite literally riddled with breaks of all tempos, driven by super-tight bongos. Originals change hands for ludicrous sums - if you're looking to cut up double copies of Apache I'd recommend the Alpha/Omega bootleg represses, they're clear and loud, and if you ruin them it won't cost you £80+ each to replace them!
