Reviews & Discussion

Rated 5/5

Dark, industrial, hardly any text samples and experimental; this album is very hard and still very intelligent. These two relatively unknown producers are at the top of their thing. Never a track released it is very daring to come out with a 13 track album out of the blue.

Although the album is hardcore orientated, subtleties of techno-rythms are to be found in some tracks, while other tracks include sounds that you have never heard before in a hardcore track. Very heavy, pounding and at some points sawtooth-basses are used, filtered and the one changes into the other.

Definetely one of my favorite albums. Rockin' with your face!

Deus Ex Machina is yet another brilliant release on Enzyme Records.

This label has been gearing towards releasing nothing but industrial/experimental/hardcore releases. Rumors have even floated around of kicking off Weapon X, as they were too commercial for the labels new sound. With this current change in music style of the label, Mindustries was signed, and Deus Ex Machina was released on both 12" and CD.

Deus Ex Machina is a brilliant, dark, raw, gritty industrial album. Having many influences from techno and hardcore (Mindustries is not exactly hardcore, despite the similarities), the two brought us this great album. Such tracks as 'Opus Mechanica', 'Mindustrial' and 'Throes Of Rejection' are true examples of industrial meets hardcore. If it werent for them being on Enzyme, I wouldn't even include the 'hardcore' label in while describing them, as they are to industrial like.

This CD is great for any fan of Enzyme, industrial music, hardcore, or anybody with an open mind. Allthough it's not new, it's one of Enzymes early more 'pure' industrial releases.
