Reviews & Discussion

Rated 4/5
Review by Instrumentallyinsane Jun 08, 2008
As a bit of an amateur audiophile, I was quite excited to see this album available in DVD-Audio, 5.1 surround sound form. Mr. Haynes' 5.1 mix starts out great with "Animosity". Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The rest of the songs seem lazily put together, with seemingly no difference between playing this vs. playing the stereo version in "surround mode".

Some may think that this genre of music does not lend itself well to the multichannel format. However, with the Jourgensen/Barker tendency toward experimentation, it can and does work here. Just listen to "Animosity" in surround, and you'll know what I mean. It's unfortunate that the same effort given to the first track was not given to the rest of the album.
