Reviews
- Minnie Ripperton was the owner of one of the finest voices in the history of recorded music. Not only did she have a incredible range but she was able to inject the kind of emotion and intimacy into a song that makes it sound as if she is singing to you and no one else.
Every single one of the tracks here is a bona-fide classic. Most were written by Minnie herself as well as some of the best writers in 70's soul/funk including Charles Stepney, Lamont Dozier and Stevie Wonder. This is joyous, sexy, funky soul music at its very best and is probably the only album I own that everyone I have played it to has fallen in love with.
If Minnie had not died so young I believe she would have gone on to become a household name but her legacy lives on as she influences some of the best singers of today, most notably the super talented Jill Scott. I even heard 'Loving You' sampled on a recent Dubstep track. Minnie lives!
