This US release features the excellent "Nightime Mix" a slightly more trancey deep take on Moby's excellent "GO". It was this mix that was included on Sasha & Digweeds first Renaissance Mix CD and the mix that was played in the more underground clubs back in the day.

Play the vinyl in reverse for some interesting results...the tune sounds almost identical backwards as it does forwards and theres also a few vocal samples that can only be heard played backwards too...quality ;)

The reversed phrases repeated in Go (Subliminal Mix) are "Time to seek the lord's forgiveness" and "Love is more powerful than hate, humility is more powerful than pride". They are obviously spoken by Moby himself. I guess he was ashamed to say those things back then, so he reversed them, but nowadays he won't shut his mouth.

'Go' is the track that launched the legend into the public gaze.

This hails from an era when tracks would be played on pirate FM radio stations several months prior to general release, giving those in the know the coolness factor over joe public.

The 'Woodtick' mix is the most famous mix of this track. Of course is samples the Angelo Badalamenti produced theme from the Twin Peaks TV series expertly, but possibly the real beauty with this track are the kick beats that sound as though they're emanating from somewhere down the road.

Many years on, this track has been updated for the Moby greatest hits compilation. Indeed the updated version is very good, but it's still the 'Woodtick' mix that stands out head and shoulders above all its peers.

With music licencing laws now so restrictive, we may never see another track like this again.

This release contains a little disclaimer by Moby, the purpose of which was that hoped to dash any misinformation about the supposed use of "Go" for a car commercial airing in early 1993. The inner sleeve features a pictogram of a car with a red "Ø" sign through it, and the catalog number even reflects this theme: CD NO CAR 1.

I got to see Moby perform this one live, when I opened for him and Joey Beltram at the Cybersonic Planet Party 2 rave, in Seattle (1992.) I don't like this one as much as some of his other early releases, although probably his biggest release of that time. Sort of mellow on the ambient tip sampling the Twin Peaks theme song and Tones On Tail's "Go."
