Adam Dorn, (a.k.a. Mocean Worker) goes through yet another phase. His first two albums were hard drum ‘n’ bass; his third was lounge-house. His fourth, ENTER THE MOWO, finds him in future jazz territory, though a slight tinge of lounge still lingers. But, to his credit, his interest in jazz seems authentic. Things get off swinging with “Chick a Boom Boom Boom” and “Right Now.” A few track tend towards the forgettable, but there are some high points as well. The humming gives a nice old-time kick to “On and On”; his melancholy reworking of Nina Simone’s incomparable vocals on “Blackbird” harkens back to the high point on his first album, the revision of Mahalia Jackson’s “Summertime.” And the drifting “Float” layers Jane Monheit’s vocals into a sonic cloud (though it seems out of place on this album).
