Reviews & Discussion

This is a strange grab-bag of mixes, and the quality is really not up to New Order's usual standards. It starts well enough, with Hardfloor's take on Blue Monday melding the spirit of '83 to the sound of '95 to great effect, and Howie B's trip-hop "Age Of Consent" being a good laugh, even if not much of a floor-filler. There's also a pleasant surprise on Side D, where Biff & Memphis turn in a decent version of "Touched By The Hand Of God" which pays tribute to the track's disco roots with a stripped-down groove and exhortations to "feel the heat!". The other tracks, though, simply see the remixers going through the motions. One for completists only.

Caveat Emptor: The "88 Version" of Blue Monday on the bonus tape is actually the instrumental version originally titled "Beach Buggy", not the vocal version. It's still a good mix, but if you're looking for the 12" vocal mix, you should look elsewhere.
