Nicola Conte has some of his Continental friends rework tracks from his debut. Jet Sounds Revisited features some of the brightest nu-jazz luminaries from Europe and beyond. Most of them retain the basic melody of the originals and explore the various permutations. Interestingly, a few (Micatone and Koop) choose to add vocals to their revisions -– an approach that I’m not entirely sure is successful. Some house rhythms also appear on here, one in the form of a Kyoto Jazz Massive remix, the other in a new track by Nicola himself, “New Standards.” Though all the remixers are in fine form, I can’t help but feel that the originals were stronger.
