Reviews & Discussion

Just when one thought NIN couldn't get any more exotic with remixes, this release proved to be the cherry topper. None of the remixes show and any relation to each other and most of the lyrics are absent. The flow of the songs make it seem as if one is listening to a forty minute musical acid trip. I'm a big fan of this single, but it may not be for everyone. Foreign versions include the original track and the vinyl version includes an exclusive mix by Aphrodite. 4/5

Releasing this single after 2 years of silence simultaneousely delighted and surprised fans - d'n'b beats was something new in NIN style. But Trent proved that he's unconformistical musician and doesn't afraid of experiments.
Meat Beat manifesto track let me down - nothing more than boring, standard d'n'b. Next Plug mix is more interesting, but still nothing special. At last Reznor himself helps the situation and adds his own great remix, which is for me the best thing on the whole CD. Rushing, hard track - one of the best experimental d'n'b I've ever heard. Jonah Sharp's work is also very good - number 2 on the single. But The Orb remix is the greatest disappointment - some boring spacey sounds and nothing more. Undisputely the worst track.
For the dessert we get original version of the titled track, which was first NIN song I've heard and till today is still one of my favourites. It contains varieties of music styles (fast d'n'b beats, guitar riffs and even ballad at the end), mixed into really great song. Brilliant.
