Fast escaping pressured steam rising over muffled voices, background footsteps and platform annoucements, the occasional steam whistle and then the slow but deliberate rolling of the engine as it gradually builds up speed, clanking, chugging and chattering its way through branch stations, under bridges and up to top speed. This record is the sound of engineering motion in all its doppler glory, its my number 1 mixing tool but more importantly stands as a testament to the raw and visceral sounds of years gone by, seldom heard nowadays but instantly recognised and loved.
