While the first Octex full-length release is a shimmering example of dubby techno done well, Variations seems more of an undirected, aimless experiment in broken beat, almost hip-hop sounding instrumental noodling. I looked for this one for quite some time and couldn't help but be disappointed.
It's not that Variations is a bad album, it's just very different from the magnificence of Idei Lahesna. If you're looking for a follow-up in a similar vein, this is not it.
