It's 'Side B' which made me go through the faintly ridiculous hassle [nowadays] of writing something and there's no AV on here for that yet, unlike 'Side A' which is OK, but no big deal, for me. For 'Side B', the term used by old fogies like me, is: 'grower', kids. Strolling back tonight plugged into my iPod as usual, it came on during shuffle and even though I've heard it perhaps 20 times before, as often happens, 'suddenly' I 'got' it. And a bit like a mini Eureka moment of sudden awareness, beyond the veil lies a land of heart-pounding excitement verging on awesome. This track is enormous. From feeble, tinkly, casual tom-tom worrying beginnings, with characteristically over-emphasised digital sheen of the few OA tracks I've heard, OAR004-B slowly transfigures into an urgently droning monster accompanied by a cavernous sub range and strict prana-invoking steps. Whoever s/he is, Oni Ayhun has for some time, been showing tell-tale signs of extremely remarkable talent on their handful of releases to date. But for me it's OAR004-B on which they've definitively shown their hand and it's an ace one, if you will. My attention has been got good.
