This is a weird one. An early 80s leftfield disco/new wave outing from Yoko Ono, which sounds at home alongside the likes of Arthur Russell and Atmosfear, played by Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage and an unlikely anthem. Apparently Yoko Ono herself was invited to the Garage to witness this, and was a convert to the flourishing underground club scene.
At one point on this record, it sounds like she is vomiting through an echo chamber. The ending is really cool, it strips down to just this odd little monologue, and the rhythm section is tight, sparse and relentless.
John Lennon didn't produce it either, but it is in his memory.
How disappointing ! When I first heard of this pack of remixes, I was like crazy because Walkin on thin ice is such a HUGE tune ... THIS is real disco punk / disco rock at its best, and if the original mix (not included here) is a must have for innovative club music lovers, these remixes are just either useless or outrageous. Felix Da Housecat simply adds a harder beat behind the original ; Danny changes the whole into an horrible cacophony ; Rui Da Silva and even François Kevorkian release trancey tech house remixes which are way too commercial ... Amazingly the Rauhoffer chill mix is the best ! Yoko Ono - and her disco classic - deserve more than this, I'm sure
