Orb, The - The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld

This is the start of it all for me, the orb where the band that made me get into ambient music and this album is still one of the best things the orb ever did.
my favourite track is star 6 7 8 and 9, i would play that track for days and days, i think it the track that made me like bands like plaid and arovane now with the plinky plonky sound that i love so much.

This Ambient dub album was groundbreaking and it still sounds fresh and new 15 years later. It's just a melting pot of ambient lushness and pure electronic bliss.
Probably one of the best albums they produced and i'm sure influenced many an artist in the early 90's.
I can't recommend it enough.

I was ecstatic to see when this release was picked up stateside for a release, but was dismayed when I found out what a stupid release it was/ They nixed the best parts and subbed in that one mix (considering the album was what it was) of Perpetual Dawn.
Stick to the re-release which is the full 2cd version.

One of the finest ambient trance albums, this LP inspired sonic pioneers everywhere thanks to classy production throughout. Waves of ambient melody are married to dub beats, escoteric samples (taken from such raw material as the campy 'Flash Gordon' movie) and ubiquitous drug references. Whilst this may seem ridiculous, the end result is a lush, many layered sound.

Many of the tracks will be strangely familiar (e.g. 'Little Fluffy Clouds') thanks to repeated use in TV advertising and suchlike.

Whilst the Orb may be considered passe by jaded modern listeners, this album is still worth 150 minutes of your chill out time. The track 'Gaia' is a particular favourite 8^)
