This is Orbital doing what they do best - making good music and overall an essential classic album. A great variety in sound, style, and original and creative musical ideas make most of this album simply outstanding. A couple tracks here and there could be better, and it starts out pretty uninterestingly, but by the end you'll be satisfied with this album. I especially like the more ambient tracks, such as Dwr Budr, because of their unique atmospheric quality.

This album gives of a certain vibe, that always seems diffrent in obrital's earlier and later work. But when we first listen to the album we come across a heartbeat base that seems to suck you in ,dispite the simplicity of the only noise you first hear. Through the rest of the album your sucked in.Even my girlfriend didn't notice that we just listened to a track that was 10:26 mins Long!-And there is very little "techno" in her collection. So for somone who does loves techno, rave, electronica.
They are garaunteed to find something for them in this album.

A masterpiece. 2nd cd adds the original album a lot. 28 minute of The box is great also.

My girlfriend bought me a pair of really awesome headphones for Christmas, and I've just dug out In Sides for a revisit.

I'll come clean as being a massive Orbital fan (at least a dozen gigs back in the day) and In Sides has always been my favourite album of theirs. To be honest, I didn't fully get it the very first time I listened to it, but for me that's part of the genius of Orbital. They don't compromise to achieve instant 'radio friendliness' - they take you somewhere far deeper if you are willing to persevere.

There is something intensely personal about this album and I always feel that it is speaking directly to ME. I guess I'm a grown-up now (past 40) but hearing In Sides again on crystal clear headphones, 15 years after it was released, has blown me away just like every time I've ever listened to it.

I agree with many of the reviews here - a true timeless masterpiece, probably my most played album ever - and I'll be forever grateful to the brothers for reaching out to that place they go and bringing this back to our world.

I can only echo what has been said, Out There Somewhere is quite possibly the greatest piece of electronic music ever conducted, and I say 'conducted' because of the orchestral elegance of the track(s).

The first part, an intense chemical rush, the second a blissful 4am comedown washing away the woes of the world.

Electronic music, in its very being, is intelligence, and demands intelligence from its listener, but Orbital go way beyond that with In Sides, because this is an unpretentious ageless masterpiece, every last bit of it, and the final blessing is these two incredible multi-layered soundscapes.

Unparalleled.

The 2nd disc is great, I was not expecting to find it in a record shop but found it used. If you like "The Box", the 28 minute version of the track is for you, there are four versions of The Box and the best is saved for last. It is the Vocal version of the song and its worth the digging and purchase of the 2 disc set. Overall, a very well balanced set of tracks and you even get some break beats from Orbital, weird.

I can only describe my life in two half's the one before I ran into "In-sides" and the half after it. For lack of a better praise this album is an absolute masterpiece! If ever a starting point to start from its this album. "The girl with the sun in her head" and "out there somewhere?" will put you to tears. The bonus CD is just as good as the first one. This album will change your life, guaranteed or your life back!

From the opening sounds to the 26 minute epic of 'Out There Somewhere' this album is bloody genius.

There is something indescribably gorgeous about this album. I've tried to de-construct and analyse it for years. But now every time I listen to it I simply lay back, relax and let my mind tingle with joy at the sounds it has to offer.

This album achieves the holy grail of electronic music by simultaneously sounding diverse but united.

Dwr budr has the perfect melodic transition from a sort of sad, melodic tune into a slightly more angry, spooky, trance. Petrol was my first love of techno from the wipeout xl soundtrack. The girl with the sun in her head is maybe my current fav, despite its length. The box part 2 was actually the first one I heard and thought was cool. It was on an MTV amp compilation, among other things. Part 1 is actually a drag to listen to, but it enhances part 2. The whole album does not have a flaw. Sad but new, and the flying times are also very entertaining. I think the artwork is the least favorable of the entire package, but thats about the only criticism I could give here.

Arguably the best Orbital album perhaps because it is the most musical and most complex. While this album relies and the standard "loops and layers" approach employed by Orbital on all of their albums, this one is not weighed down by the addition of unnecessary vocalists like their later albums - the music is left to stand on it's own. The 2 part compositions "The Box" and "Out There Somewhere?" are the standouts for me. Like other reviewers, I'd have to agree that of all my electronica CD's, this one gets the most play.
