A revolutionary album at the time, but I must admit that now it sounds very dated, uncreative, and at times, boring. I think that Orbital's Brown Album has aged much more effectively, as interesting now as it was back then, and although the original Orbital, the funky techno Orbital, is more accurately displayed on this release. I'd definitely recommend this, because you may or may not like it - just keep in mind the year this was made in.

No review for the sauve techno brothers from Uk? Alright here goes. This is the best introduction to electronic music one could have. Thus, it's one of my first buy's as a so called dj. Containing all the elements that would impress and awe all music lovers worldwide to this day, this has to be one of the greatest electronic albums ever made. Taking the home land to the listener is what "Belfast" and others do impeccably. Satan is a rude awakening much appreciated. Impressive keyboard, percussion and writing skills are abound in all songs.

Phil and Paul were and will forever be considered pioneer's and well respected till the end of time. Yes, like all good-great thing's, they must end and after being able to read each others age lines from endless studio time together, (and being brothers), they are apart now and the music will forever speak for them, amen.

This LP for me epitomises what Orbital are (or were) all about. A lot of people say that the Brown album is the one. Both albums are old in terms of techno music and I wouldnt even say that they were groundbreaking. After all, the first Orbital LP came out what seemed an eternity after the singles contained on it (2 years later which is a vey long time after to release an LP). Its the simplicity that does it for me. The build ups on these tracks are so simple. You get one sound doing its thing for 32 beats then another sound is introduced for the same period of time and so on and so on. The whole LP is built his way. It is this style which sets itself apart from the brown album which is good, BUT, It fixes itself in a period of time that will always sound likes its from 94. When you listen to Kraftwerk, you are listening to innovation in techno music that has a real robotic feel to it. You listen to Kraftwerk because you are into where it all comes from historically. I cant listen to the Brown album in this way whereas its predecessor has that real early techno vibe and is the basis of Orbital's sound. Everything following that would never sound like that but would follow or fit in with what was going on musically at the time. It would still sound like Orbital but you have to go to the roots to get the real deal.

The Green album sounded dated when it first came out! If you dont remember, there was stuff like Mescalinium United which still sounds like the sound of the future today. It just didnt sound up-to-date like that and most of the people I played it to, had not really been on the scene as long as me and were listening to the Begium and German stuff.

The sound of the Green LP has more appeal now and will continue to have more appeal as time goes on whereas the tracks that were from Germany and may have sounded new and fresh then, you wouldn't dream of playing now. Its a funny thing. If I were asked to reccomend an Orbital album, It would be this. It is what made them. Its their sound. It has Chime, Midnight and Belfast all on one side. Just for that - this is it. The rest is fantastic too. Just dont expect new synth sounds. It about the composition, the build-up and the breakdowns. Its so simple but so effective. Nobody did it like Orbital did.

Orbital's first album and therefore a classic. It has been bettered by their 'Brown album' but nevertheless it contains renditions of both 'Chime' and 'Belfast'.

Surprisingly this is also quite an experimental and simple album as Orbital hadn't yet settled on a formula. Therefore you get the loopy weirdness of 'Moebius' (complete with Star Trek vocal sample - I think, don't quote me) next to the lovely 'Oolaa'.

A most satisfying album even especially compared to some of the overproduced dance music of today.

This release is actually a compilation and not Orbital's "real" first album.

Unfortunately, the mix of Midnight is an edit of the 12" version, but it is better than the "live" mix that appears on the non-US versions of this album.

It's a very good debut album from two brothers who became the pioneers of electronic music. All the tracks have that old good old-school spirit... It's a really good record!
This is the '99 reissue of the album. It also contains one hidden track entitled "I Think It's Disgusting" - it's a short (51 seconds) piano loop.

Apart from obvious classics Belfast and Chime, you also get the first version of Satan, which is not quite the nasty, angry, frothing-at-the-mouth monster it is now, but does have some brilliant noises in it. Other highlights include the noisy Choise, the sublime Midnight, and Desert Storm, which is full of Eastern promise.
