Not sure of the story of the naming behind this track having anything to do with a certain prescription medication the Hartnoll's mom was apparently addicted to, but the drug is spelled 'Halcion', the word 'Halcyon', like the song title, basically means 'tranquil' which I guess is where the drug's name comes from. But the medication is spelled differently from the song title, either because of copyright I guess, or because the song is peaceful and blissful just like the meaning of the word.

The version on this 12" is a re-edit of the album version which appeared on the hackers soundtrack, (terrible, terrible film). A bit more club friendly but not radically different.

The voice is sampled from Opus III's It's a Fine Day. Halcyon is named after the tranquilizer that made a zombie out of their mother when she was addicted to it according to the Hartnoll boys in a TV interview.

Truly Halcyon is jus' wonderful. The track itself is named after a sleeping tablet / tranquilizer and really sounds like you're hearing it thru a haze, with the high end sounds and that backwards vocal sample. Flip over to Naked & The Dub for some real tribal dubbed out percussion workouts with possibly the coolest bassline since "the blue room". top class action!
