Although it never hit the charts in 1978, "Weekend" by Phreek is the perfect summer song when going to the beach and having a barbeque. At first it sounds like volleyball music, but retains that hard disco edge, not to mention the electric violins and sharp vocals by Christine Wiltshire. But the real credit goes to Patrick Adams, who along with Leroy Burgess and James Calloway have contributed so much to the house music scene that they are now considered pioneers, not to mention legends.
Yeah, this is a classic summer groove full of funky fruityness. The vocals are great - they start off quite structured and restrained but as the song progresses she starts to lose composure and just let the passion loose! Its great to listen to the transition. The music keeps gaining intensity and her vocals follow suit, just getting more and more wild. "This time it's party time, it's party time tonight." You're damn right it's party time! Get this record and get on down down down.
