Reviews & Discussion

CD1 is the Paul Oakenfold I used to know. He mixes each well-layed-out track with precision and the outcome is perfection. In my opinion, CD2 is not that good, CD1 could have sold alone. CD1 take me back to the GU007 days...and those were good days.

I'm not sure just how much input Oakenfold really had on this compilation because it sounds like nothing I have heard from him in years but that being said, this was a really a breath of fresh air from the often maligned DJ Oakenfold.

The first CD opens with Matt Darey's 2004 update of his classic and epic trance track from alias Li Kwan titled 'Point Zero' the original which appeared on the infamous GOA mix. And every track that follow is just as good, unknown tracks and future classics are loaded into CD1 and make for a smooth yet peak time heavy listening experience. Many people were skeptical about Carlos Vives being in the tracklisting when it was first announced but Oakenfold's mix of Como Tu does wonders for me and I cannot fault him for including his own production here.

CD2 starts off with the thunderous track from DJ Suzy Solar and the mixing into the next five tracks is flawless, as is the track selection. On this CD Oakenfold uses newcomers Anthanasia (Peter Martin) and Pinkbox Special (Derek Howell & Peter Martin) as well as classic trance titles such as Scatterbomb and People Want To Be Needed.

Time of your life and Oakenfold's U2 remix are the low points of this compilation for me as Oakenfold clearly used this comp to promote his other tracks which do not fit fell in this mix. Regardless of whether his tracks and mixes stand well on their own they sound forced into this compilation.

CD1 - 9/10
CD2 - 8/10

Oakenfold isn't back but this was an unexpected and pleasent surprise from him.
