Peter Grummich - Searoom

Jackmonster is by far the most insane minimal techno record in my collection to date. It features high speed clicking and crunching noises put to an uber-deep 125bpm kick drum that would take your head clean off on a good system. Is the track good or bad though? I honestly can't say for sure. Its bizarre to say the least. Most people that I've played the record for have asked me to stop playing it after the first minute or so. Based on this unofficial audience survey, I feel that this song could be better utilized as a dj tool during peak hour rather than playing it from start to finish because I can't imagine an audience that would be able to withstand it for the entire duration. To me listening to this track is similar to having someone tickle your feet. Yes its funny for a minute, after that it starts to get really annoying.

Grummich keeps coming with his out of the box thinking on "No Reason". The inspiration for the track name becomes obvious after a few listens when you realize that Grummich has utilized a 5/4 time signature to lay down a track that sounds like the background music to a really bad 80's halloween movie. Added bonus is the fact that the track switches back and forth between 4/4 signature and 5/4 at different points, which is less than ideal for a dj.

While I really do like the dark mechanical sound of No Reason, GOOD LUCK trying to phrase this correctly in a live set. It begs the question "Why would anyone want to use a 5/4 signature in a minimal techno track?" If you asked Peter I'm sure the answer would be "hmm...No Reason"....
