Pretentious fussing of the worst kind.

Without the advent of multi-track recording; overdub's and heavy heavy amounts of LSD. This record would probably have been pretty boring and akin to a folk record bordering on a soundtrack classical record.
For everyone that claims to hate Pink Floyd through albums like The Wall, or hearing Money again over the jukebox at arandom bar for the thousandth time or hearing David Gilmour slaughter what was left with his elaborately composed paf. This record might secure its place in their head as that really odd album to listen to really late at night when they are wasted.
This record also contains a few gentle remains of what Pink Floyd would have done if Syd Barret hadn't gone on to become such a painful acid meltdown and if the group direction were left up to him with things like "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun." A slow building mantra whose base lyric has appeared in most every other variation on the psychedelic sound; whether electronic or not. Instead, this record cuts off those dreams right at the knee and turns its head on to some very heavy freak out material and some of the most hilarious song titles next to some of the titles from Film or background music.

A true masterpiece from the weirdo’s of Pink Floyd. Although they are well known for their strange, experimental and innovative sound, Ummagumma goes one step further as we are ultimately entering the psychedelic area of the band. Every song on this album is, at least, unusual, mysterious and out of this world. Most of us will agree that the live-section on this album is from a far higher level than the sometimes grubby studio-section but in general Ummagumma is a superb pre-ambient album that definitely has no equal! Not only ‘Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Stick’ is the most beautiful and crazy title ever invented by a human being, but it’s also the most insane piece of music I’ve ever heard, f*cking brilliant! If you like long, vague, psychedelic soundscapes and complex compositions, this is simply the best album you can buy… A 5-star release.
