Psst...Hey kid - y'wanna take a trip? I've got a slab for ya to chew on! If you want to fly away and leave your worries behind for a while, you should put this one on. I personally like music that takes me away, and this record has the unmistakable ability to launch me into space every time I listen to it. Sure, it's "drum-n-bass", but it's not just drum-n-bass - it's smart, innovative, daring, and musical all in one! Luke Vibert is a modern musical genius. This record along with anything in his Plug or Wagon Christ guise tops the scales for what makes intuitive music. And drummers take notes as Luke will teach you a thing or two about pattern construction and rhythmic conception, all while maintaining the balance between too much drums and/or not enough melody, etc. In other words, his music is not one-dimensional or "just beats, no music" - you get the whole package. This particular release also possesses the "spaced-out" factor. Like you're in another dimension. You must check it out for yourself. I played this for some acquaintances some time back and their reaction was less than enthused, so not everybody will be as moved as myself with the utter musical genius of this release, but those who know music will appreciate the true genius inflected into these cuts. This is among the best music (period!) to come out of the 1990s, it's far more innovative than all that Seattle grunge shit, and better than most all of the techno (even my favorite techno releases) of the '90s in terms of adding musicianship to the art of electronic music production. Vibert is a class A musical genius. This rates about a 75 on the 1-5 system of this website. The best the '90s could offer. DEFINITELY check it out.
