The Union Jack remix proves just how quickly the trance scene was moving back in the early to mid 1990s. 'Vicious Circles' was originally released in 1993 and by all accounts was considered to be an excellent track, yet once the Union Jack version came along the original mixes paled into the background.
The structure of the track is kept similar to the 'Spirit Level' mix from the original release but the bass line is beefed up, the brassy stabs made prominent, and a Cosmic Baby type background tonal atmosphere runs throughout in the background. The clincher though is in the massive arms in the air breakdown the subsequent high pitched squeaks that indeed sound very much like a Duck Billed Platypus.
A classic psy trancer that crosses over to a wider variety of dance floors. Once heard, never forgotten.
