Avant-funk, punk-dub, whatever... Screaching vocals, enigmatic lyric, distorted echo... everything a boy could want.

One of my favorite records of all time from one of my favorite groups of all time. In fact, at one time I owned 3 copies of the 7" and 2 copies of the 12", cause I was afraid something would happen to them, and I didn't want to be without.

I stumbled on this one sort of by mistake, on 7", but was a little unhappy with the sound quality. When I found out there was a 12" version I began to search for it, but this was in the pre-internet days, so it took a while. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the 12" sounds just like the 7", hard to believe it's a Bovell production.

One of the greatest debuts in the history of rock music, it grabs you by the throat from the first few seconds. Mark Stewart sounds like a man possessed while guitars chime and Bruce Smith's drums lope menacingly. Bringing in legendary reggae producer Bovell was an inspired idea, as evidenced by the B-side track 3:38, a howling cataclysm of backwards feedback and pounding drums that predates Adrian Sherwood and is probably the best punk rock / dub crossover in existance.
