Possibly one of the first early rave tracks that heard. Those were the days!

Charly is a ironic response to the anti-rave legislation, that is! I think it's a good tune.

Records that change lives. This surely is amongst them - although not for the title track Charly, for which it has become know. The main reason this record became so popular and broke through to the mainstream charts was because of the B-side... the seminal 'Your Love'. A track that still holds its ground today, which is surely a sign of a masterful piece of music.
Your Love became very popular on the scene, and this record started to sell to begin with for that track alone. Some would argue Pandemonium had a hand it in too, but let's not kid ourselves. Great as it is. I should also add that version of Your Love that appears on this records differs greatly, and stands head and shoulders above the version which appears on the 1st Prodigy album - Experience (although that may be a little bit of nostalgia creeping in, but I don't think so).
Charly of course features the rather annoying cat - who I used to love as a kid but now can't stand - from the 'Stranger Danger' public information films that were broadcast on TV, urging children not to go off with people they didn't know. Sound advice. As would be to pick yourself up a copy of Charly. But again not for the title track. This record for me, and for thousands of others, will always remain all about one track in particular. My love. Your love. Everybody's love.

No promotional copies of Charly were released by XL-Recordings on either vinyl or CD. Only ten acetate white label 12 inches were pressed to promote this single.

It was just last year that I finally discovered from a TV quiz-show that the voice of Charly, the cartoon cat from the "stranger danger" films, was provided by zany radio/TV funnyman Kenny Everett.

Despite being tucked away as a B-side, 'Your Love' became (and remains) a very popular tune in its own right. It's a great track; in fact I think the piano sequence three minutes in is one of the most beautiful sections in a dance track ever - so it's particularly annoying that DJ's often mix into the next record before or over that bit!

Old skool DJ's take note: purleeease mix out *after* the best bit on 'Your Love'! (and the same goes for Krome & Time's 'This Sound Is For The Underground' too!) Thanks. :)

Charly went down very well with the kiddies, thus it made the UK Top 40 very easily. But the tracks that really made this release were Pandemonium & Your Love.
Pandemonium being a synth-led, breakbeat monster, whilst Your Love was based around piano & breakbeat.
Either way, those two tracks I mention are much much better than Charly.

The sample is of a cat ( charly ) they used to use on child safety t.v adverts " Charly says always tell your mummy before you go off somewere" Classic 80's t.v advert, top tune aswell.
