RE : "the ambient version of Neurotic Behavior" - this was the first version written by Carl Craig, who didn't have a drum machine at the time (hence the 'ambient' label!). Derrick May listened to Carl's tape and added a beat to the track for the Transmat release.

It's not very hard to figure out the real dimension of Carl Craig's majestic career when you discover that in 1989 he was releasing as Psyche already! Even though the sophisticated ambient version for this classic is superior, I consider Derrick May's Mayday Repro Mix a very serious remix. The strange metallic-modulated sounds are pretty much avant-garde for that time. This was certainly one of the first productions of Carl Craig and Derrick May together - and it is well know that Mayday played a very important role concerning the skills development of the second-generation Techno-Jazz Titan.

Although the ambient version of Neurotic Behavior was released on ART records in 1993 it was actually written the same time as the Transmat release in 1990 and first appeared on an unreleased tape.
This also came out as a hand written copy which was distributed via (Larry Heard's Gherkin Records) with the Gherkin stamp on it..
