This was a heavily-rotated track for me in the clubs. Wink's version (we played a lot of Winkish stuff those days) is such a smooth track and played at large volumes, puts you in a deep hypnotic state.
One nicety of this track is that it doesn't rely on vox samples or effects. The rolling bass and ploppy boards really progress and take you somewhere. You realize quickly that nothing is really going to happen in the song and that's OK, for a change.
To all you fans of Mortal Kombat, you should know that "Wink's Live Sequenced Version" appeared on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. I was not a fan of Mortal Kombat, I thought it was ridiculous, and the sountrack album pretty much sucked except for "Unlearn" - Wink's version. I don't know what their problem was either when they cut off about two or three minutes of the end of it. Corporate bullshit as always. But at least they did use the damn song! Wait - there was another decent song on the soundtrack - by Juno Reactor, but that's irrelevent. What's relevant here is that despite Wink's version being the only really good one on this EP, it's just that good to actually buy the thing. I still don't know what exactly draws me to it, but somehow the simplicity and concise conception of the track is very appealing. Otherwise it's fairly standard stuff. But that Dirty Vegas song captured me too, sometimes music doesn't have to be the top of innovation or virtuosity to appeal to me, it just has to be good. This is very much like that Dirty Vegas track (I'm talking Days Go By), nothing outwardly different, but just polished enough to really be GOOD. See what you think - I'm sure others would like the other versions more on this.....
