Reviews & Discussion

referencing Mirror, CD, Gravity 36

I first heard The Rapture with their second mini-album, "Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks" (Subpop, SPCD 505), enjoying it in passing. I didn't know much of the bands roots, until I found this, their first mini-album. It's rough, but the basis of the future form of The Rapture is there. Vito's vocals sound a bit like Robert Smith, and some of the guitarwork is reminiscent of The Cure, but there ends most of the references. While their music is moody, it is more chaotic, with more references to be made to James Chance and the like. And as a bonus, Kid606 remixes "Notes ..." into "In Love With The Underground," layering and chopping the original nicely. It is the most produced sounding piece on the album, the rest sound lo-fi compared to this.
