I'd like to add, most importantly, that listening to both sides of this record, it is quite clear that they were intended to be mixed together - chants is the fore of the mix and tambours is the bass and rhythm section - put them together, analogue or digitally, and you have the opportunity to complete the track and - crucially - create your own mix. All in all a minimalist masterpiece that Mr Villalobos has cleverly created on vinyl
The chants mix is a 15 (or longer) minute trip of a 4-note pianoloop and a bunch of children euhm, chanting something in spanish. It's ridiculously simple but oh so effective. A trip of warm sounds with summervibes written all over it. It's sonic equivalent of a warm blanket. This is what minimal should be about, a maximum of emotions with a minimum of sounds. Once again Ricardo shows how it's supposed to be done.
