Well, what can I say about this other than it's a modern day masterpiece. Anyone who classes themselves as a fan of electronic music should consider this as an album to have in their collection.

I still remember the first time I put the DVD in, switched on the 5.1 surround sound, and heard the intro swirling round the room... it's like a spaceship is landing on top of your house!

Im not going to go into detail talking about every track thats on the album, because lets face it I'd be here for about a week, but the whole concept of this album proves yet again that Richie Hawtin is the true pioneer of electronic music.

Albums like this which push the boundaries of what is possible with technology and music should inspire artists and listeners alike, and thankfully it shows what quality there is out there as opposed to the mindless drivvel dominating the charts today.

Holy shit! you thought the previous DE9's were good? Wait 'til you listen to richie's latest installment! Up to par with the first DE9 volume and a big improvement from the slightly inferior DE9: Closer To The Edit, this is an effort pushing the boundaries of mixing and probably the peak in 2005's musical output regarding mix albums. Given the extreme lifting Mr. Hawtin has applied to all the material used for the construction of this suite most of the original sources end up sounding unrecognizable, which has lead to an entirely refreshing concept of the mixing experience. One recommendation? Get the long version on the dvd rollin' and swallow it in one sit, you'll understand the meaning of the word "build". Genius, period.

Absolutely fabulous and seamless blend of modern and not so modern beats, woven together into something quite unique - the sum is definitely more than its parts!
Track 21, the last track on the CD (I don´t have the DVD) is an amazing ambient w. beats/space/futuristic track that may well be the best moment on this incredible CD.
Not to miss!

Richie has done it again: taking musical minimalism to the next level by incorporating the endless possibilities of today's technology to the fullest.
Third part in the DE9 series, this is indeed a giant leap forward with regard to its precursor 'Closer to the edit'.
On the DVD, Richie explains the advanced process in simple words, so that even my mother can understand what he's talking about.
Musically, the individual tracks have been stripped to their bare essentials and then used to build new tracks like a brick wall; but I've never seen a plasterer do such a precise job > in fact, Richie is probably the only artist in the world who can make this happen!
As extra features you get the full 5.1 Surround mix, two video clips which in my opinion are a bit too arty-farty, and twelve minutes of his DJ set at Timewarp, with a really cool visual backdrop.
But the best feature is that while listening, you can exactly follow on-screen which tracks are flown in and out of the mix.

In short: this is where technology is today, with the best electronic music has to offer. The man still is number one.

Since buying this last week I have not listened to anything else. Inspite of this I still find it impossible to understand quite how some thing so minimal can be so complex, so engrossing, so full of restless energy. Richie has been producing fine music for at least 10 years but here he has finally arrived, creating something truely groundbreaking in its conception, production and execution. But unlike so many other Techno tracks or mixs that claim to be the next step in Techno this is not overtly experiemental or esoteric, rather it is a natural and perfect crystalisation of where Techno has been going and where it has come from over the last 10 years.
