Reviews & Discussion

This is not intended to be taken as a wholly original piece. It's an EP derived from a mix album, and I'm sure Hawtin is the only DJ ever to have done that. Given that, Richie Hawtin's reinterpretations and reconstructions of the artists' pieces are fantastic, DE9 | Transitions being maybe *the* finest and mix album ever constructed. Taken in these two ten-minute bits, you really can't get any better. Listening to it, unless you're already very familiar with the source pieces you can't even tell that there are up to maybe 6 or 8 different tracks playing at once.

The tunnel samples/ borrows very heavily from Sleeparchive (Elephant Island and Research), Philus and Ø (Rongten E.P.).
So much so that it is hardly an original piece, more like a remix-mash-up. Being very familiar with the works of Mika Vainio and Sleeparchive I find it a bit disappointing to hear those artists' trax basically being played over a different beat.
Twin Cities is a fun drawn out dancing around a bonfire vibe kind of trippy percussion heavy track.
