Notes

Re-Release of the original recording from 1994, released as Imbalance 02 on the original Imbalance label.

Some of the sounds are processed recordings of water, some are purely synthetic. Piercing Music also contains a sample of Wieland Samolak's CD Steady State Music, used by kind permission. Most of the movement within the piece is stochastic. Curves were drawn using MAX table objects to generate distributions and determine the chance incident of specific events within given periods of time. Equipment used: Ensoniq ASR-10, Yamaha TG 77, Roland Juno-6, Alesis Quadraverb, Opcode/IRCAM Max 2.0 running on a Macintosh Plus, all mixed with a Roland M-160 straight to DAT.

The original recording of the installation from 1993 served as background music for a piercing performance and this is where the title had its origin.

Good heavens! This is a wonderful example of very minimal ambient music. It's very close in form and style to the wonderful Monolake ep 'Gobi - the desert'. As you would expect for a Henke record, it's lovingly and expertly produced. Bears comparison also with some of Rod Modell's work on Silentes. If you like your tunes minimal and ambient without being dark or nasty or weird, grab a copy of the excellent CD while you can.
