Reviews & Discussion

Review by Ronan_Glasgow Jan 23, 2008
Hoodmusic 2 is, arguably, one of Robert Hood's best ever releases. All 3 tracks are amazing and it is hard to pick a favourite.

"Still Hear", in its original form, is a relentless warped sounding techno track. Hard from the opening seconds, it begins suddenly and picks up momentum as it continues. By the middle there are crashing cymbals and amazing synth stabs which give it more depth. This is the most relentless and hard track on the ep.

"School" is a bouncy track with an infectious vocal snippet that resonates throughout the whole 6 minutes or so. This track's pounding bass kicks and relentless energy make it as appealing as the first track, if not more so.

If pushed to select a favourite track on this ep, it would probably have to be the Los Hermanos remix of "Still Hear". This is a more stripped down and less agressive take on the ep's first track. It is possible to hear traces of the original track which is filtered down and combined with more lively and organic sounding percussion, which you would expect from Los Hermanos. The track builds up over the first minute or so before coming alive with an exquisite high end lead section. The tune is topped off superbly with beautiful warm detroit style synth stabs. This track is a great example of a successful remix. Los Hermanos have maintained a thread from the original track but adapted it and added to it, to create something that, arguably, exceeds the original.

Without a doubt, this ep is a must buy!
