After being lucky enough all these last years to collect the Roger&Nardini library LPs collection I come to know firmly that "Merry and Sad" is the one in my first place of top list parade for a cause many of you can take.
This because here we have a series of tracks that spam from all the Maestros mood: from the most known joyful side to the precious sad melancholic deep heart mood.
But the real high point here is that Roger and Nardini were able to make normal pop music in one abnormal non ortodox kind of way:just as surprising as evolving as seconds passes.
For example if we consider one other album of around approx the same year, "Melodies with a beat" we can clearly see connections: from 1971 to 1974 the 2 companions were constructing this unique sound and should say "style" among every other library musicians:infact at end of having listened all their work you clearly feel like you have listened to all else music wich stands out of it only for similarities.
So with the help of Arp Solina wich synthesized all the string orchestra, the usual sensible true drumming, the EMS VCS3 and synths weird and quirky spare soundings, Roger and Nardini were able to craft many albums made of regular songs at a first sigh, but after deep listening we can hear bits of surprising percussion, magnificent deep melodies and SUBtle evolving ambiental moods with strategic sound layers and not forgetting the usual bossa polka and boogie treatment of some songs wich resemble a typical pop song form that Roger took from the time he lived: we cannot forget he came from the roaring thirties big band era.
So the tracks here are mesmerizing starting with 2 arias made of full electro melody (and harpsichord stabs?), then i think one of the most beautiful Roger theme "Piano Indigo" like a lover song made up of piano backgrounds and electronics whose timbre i still can't recognize at all for his countinuosly doubling piano sounds,"Expectation" is a synth ambiental tune with long effects on spare drums punctuations, then here and there from the A mside to B side comes some "you may find" irritating episodes like "Wanton Walk","Bodega Bay" that make you think that we cannot live without that french humour balancing spleen. Then you find yourself at a bar desk drinking "Ginfizz" and his remarkble central growing melody and "Bossa in Pink" relaxing with "old style" mood.
Or laying alone on the sofa with a tea after hard day, or using it with soundtrack while doing something inspiring or in the evening with friends
at party , this Roger/Nardini production will always fit your ears requirements, plus it has been cut on marvellous super lasting MPO vinyl that provide an incredible clean playability even with occurring dust or age/storing signs.
For me now these sounds are something i cannot live without.

So when you start to play the record , you may know what to expect, BUT (believe me) YOU DO NOT KNOW, (and it is better so..!)
