Reviews & Discussion

As above, this is a solid set from Samuel Session. Though it features his own material, Session slips in a few other goodies like Mills, some funk-influenced tracks, and that record from Rodriguez. Session's mixing style is aggressive, fast, and yet far from smooth, which gives the mix an edgy feel. Mixes cut from one track to the next; Session favors dropping the next beat as opposed to layered blending. This is a very raw, intuitive set from a man with a taste for proper techno rhythms. Excellent stuff; the graphic design for the disc features a map of Africa in earthtones. Oxia's track is Etat d'Esprit.

This is a CD that you must have in your collection if you're a fan of Monoid CDs or an SLS tribal fan... SLS here starts with funky house from Nigel Richards - The Medley... he keeps it tech house for some time and plays stuff like his remix of Visions of You - excellent...untill he puts Kat Race and there he's telling what he's preparing for... after that he no doubt starts his tribal session with the tracks from the Phont vynil - first it's Cycling, Tha Loop and then the great dub hit - Tribe Cut...he leaves it going alone for a minute or two and then he flips Mills again with alarms - after it's almost all tribal: Santos Rodriguez, Oliver Ho, SLS vs Sims and then again his 5 minutes of Centrafrique tracks! After that and They Stole The Soul there's some techno [but old and soft] tracks - K Alexi's Club MCM & DJ Funk's Run as XTC and then again - another dub from In Your Box and some ambiental house tracks for the end... Excellent mixing abilities! :)
PS: There's no Oxia's 134 - It must be something else...

This is his mix for the record label Monoid. Monoid has been reponsible for quite a number of very good releases of late and also an excellent mix cd by one of my favourites, Umek. Just looking at the track listing is enough to get anyone into techno and tech house excited....SLS, Richard Harvey, Jeff Mills, Oliver Ho, Trevor Rockcliffe and the list goes on. In total SLS cuts up 27 tracks in a mere 60 minutes!

SLS starts out funky and he never lets up. What surprised me was right from the outset he cuts it up big time. Sampling, scratching, backspinning, EQing and any other DJ trick you can name he does in pretty much the first track. From here on it is business. Layering and looping tracks left right and centre.
