When I came across this whilst browsing new releases at Hardwax, it caused instant excitement. I first heard Shinjuku Skyline last summer and had hoped it would one day get a full release. Immediate disappointment quickly followed when I realised this wasn't a full Simon Flower release, just one track accompanied by two remixes. The title track is deep minimal techno, layered with dense detroit-esque atmospherics. This could have and should have been the EP to bring Nurture back from the dead, I know Simon has several more unreleased tracks of this calibre, so to release this with some (sub standard) remixes is a crying shame. Sadly, both remixes are uninventive and unimaginative and just don't contain the depth and feeling of the original. I suppose I should be happy that Shinjuku Skyline is released at all but I can't help feeling frustrated at what might have been.... Here's hoping 2007 will see the Nurture label spring back to life.
