Snap! scored big time in the 90's with such hits as "The Power", "Mary Had A Little Boy" and "Rhythm Is A Dancer". Leaders of the Eurodance Genre, they achieved a successful, lucrative career before the "Gimme A Thrill" event put an end to a serie of chart topping singles. From that day, they've been over remixed by lots of dance acts and never offered new material.
"The Cult Of Snap! - 1990 >> 2004" is a compilation that gathers most of these remixes. A few surprises: the 2NF remix of "Mary Had A Little Boy" is working very well with the help of Milky on vocals. The rapping of Turbo B. is left away, maybe for the better. Fu-Tourist, a very talented DJ from Sweden, manages well his version of "World In My Hands", more disco oriented than the previous versions we are used to. Twin takes on "When You're Near" (an unreleased track it seems) is successful in bringing back the Euro sound of the 90's. It even sounds a bit old. The Trance rework of "Do You See The Light" by Plaything is very well done, giving a new life to the Niki Haris vocals.
But, that said, the rest of this compilation is mostly bad. The remix of "Rhythm Is A Dancer" is totally useless and asceptized. The little "Run DMC" phase in the middle with the Turbo B. vocals is tasteless and irritating. Ron Van Kroonenburg is doing a fine job in destroying "Rame". Chris Zippel and Motivo are giving an Indian/Arabic touch to "Colour Of Love" and "The Power" (what else? A Peruvian version of "The Power"?). "Angel", the only track that was featuring on the unreleased Snap! album, appear here as a conclusion. Nice sampling, but eventually after the first replay, you understand how bad it still is and why the whole album "One Day On Earth" was trashed back in 2000.
