Solar Ocean ‎– Kingdom Of Icy Cold EP

A short but rather promising EP of wintery drones from this mysterious Russian ambient project out of the city of Chelyabinsk, located just beyond the Ural Mountains. Opening up with the crackling of firewood in an eerie winter night the aesthetics of the artwork and track titles sit perfectly with the hollow and brooding soundscape of dark and slumbering woods. We soon have to leave the relative safety of the comforting circle of light and venture beyond into the ghostly realm of the snowy night. The overall impression does limp a bit due to the tracks ending and starting abruptly which hurts the hypnotic element and the EP would have worked better if it was carefully edited and segued into a single file. Overall though, the bleak and sometimes noisy drones are highly atmospheric if not necessarily original, but I do look forward to hearing more from this project.
