Son Kite - Like A Streak / Mirage

I think this was released about the same time as their debut album. If you've heard that one you almost know what this is like.

"Like a Streak" is another monotone 16th note bassline type of track, but with sweet looped melodies that are very heavily processed. A fast and very bouncey groove is made even better by the hihats with their crisp little delays and that excellent kick drum. All effects and/or melodies (some are very much in between) have a wet sound to them, everything is bubbling and boiling while rushing forward. The sense of speed here is great, and I really want to get up and dance instead of writing this review when I listen. As with all their tracks the buildups are works of perfection, making it delightfully hypnotic. No unnecessary little breaks or out-of-place sounds; everything is right where it should be. The typical break/fake ending before the last few minutes is awesome, and when the beat kicks back in I feel all warm and fuzzy. One of my (many) favourite Son Kite tracks.

"Mirage" is a slower piece, with a heavy 8th note bass like the track "Deuce" off of their Minilogue album. (Friendly DJ advice: Those two blend perfectly by the way, absolutely seamless.) The groove is irresistible and sports some shuffled percussion patterns which makes asses wiggle on even the most rhythm impaired. Wet, bubbling noises and low, subtle melodies spice it up further. Very far from full on, this track is best suited for the beginning of a set. Son Kite has never been about home listening in my opinion, this is music for a big sound system and a proper dancefloor.

Conclusion: This is very good stuff, better than ACDC003 which is also by Son Kite. One of their best old style singles in my opinion, along with the two Naja ones.
