Soul II Soul ‎– Keep On Movin

Apparently the CD single and 12" versions of "Keep On Movin Remix" have completely different mixes on them with the same titles. I'm unsure if it's true for ALL of the 12"es, but the German one I have has very different remixes on it than the UK CD single, which is confusing because they're all respectively titled the same: "The New York Mix", "The First Movement", and "A Dub In The Sun". I had only just noticed today because I generally listened to the CD version. Today I popped on the 12" and was shocked to say the least. If you're a fan of the Craig Kallman and Nelson "Paradise" Roman mixes of "Keep On Movin'", apparently you need both the CD single and the 12" single to get 'em all. Oh, the weird and wonderful world of music. :)

A longer version than the original, adding more percussion & a sharper snare drum, the New York mix slightly improves on an all ready excellent pop song.

Probably my favorite single release of 1989. There's not much that instantly evokes the feeling of the end of the '90s to me like this song and these remixes. (Maybe "Get A Life", also by Soul II Soul.) Truly great melting pot sound, a great synthesis of electronic, hip-hop, crisp club/dance sounds of the era. Nellee Hooper's otherworldly production and string arrangements add the song an overarching feeling of weighty substance. Somehow none of it sounds dated over twenty years later...it maintains a near-hermetically-sealed freshness. Frankly, I can't see this ever getting old.

One of the greatest pieces of British Black music ever! and up there with the all time Soul classics. Soul II Soul are legends in my opinion, primarily for the creation of this stunning record and their also fantastic all time classic Dance album 'Club Classics Vol 1'. The lyrics are pure poetry and sung incredibly beautifully with an amazing musical backdrop, including those stunning violins. An essential classic that's brilliant for taking it down at a party or when a dancefloor needs reinvigorating with some soul. Music that transcends any genres or boundaries and is pure orgasmic. Timeless
