I have a a copy that is exactly the same but the printing is in black rather than blue shown in the picture. Is mine a completely different release or just a misprinting of the label? I looked through all the other ones with the same catalog number and this is the only one that has the exact same label just the printing is a different color.

Do the hip hop the hippit is just a line in the lyrics of this song. A very important song in the history of Hip Hop. Did i say Hip Hop? Maybe the phrase Hip Hop already existed in those days, but this music was not known as such at that time. It was called Rap. With the arrival of the Maxi-Single in 1976 instrumental versions of disco tracks became widely available. The youngsters in the ghetto loved it and started rapping on it. Hey, that sounds great. Let's make a record of our own. Thanks to Bernard Edwards for one of the most famous bass lines in the history of black music. And there you have it, problems! Rapper's Delight was the break through for Rap music and a huge number one in lots of countries all over the world. Now, where goes the money to? Chic? Sugarhill Gang? One thing is for sure. From the early beginning till, i don't know exactly, but let's say 1985, this genre or style of music was called Rap. Not Hip Hop, not Pop Rap, maybe Disco Rap, but mainly Rap. Have a look at those titles of compilations from that time. Genius Of Rap, Rap Attacks. If you find one saying Hip Hop, i congratulate you. My question to discogs management is: Why can't we select either the genre or style Rap? A second thing is sure. This catchy song still has magic written all over it. Thanks to Chic for the music and Sugarhill Gang for one of the most fluent disco raps in the history of music.

I probably wouldn't beat down the writer of the first comment saying the remix is better than the original, altough I wouldn't want to make the comparison at all. It's just two totally different styles, and the original is really one of the greatest records of all times, just so authentic and groovy - no remix could ever beat that, not even Liebrand's, which is, as one must admit, classy in its own way. But however, I just might add another great sample source for the remix that crossed my way on a flew market just today: Black Riot [Todd Terry]: "A Day In The Life" (1988). A classic Acid House tune in the style of Maurice's "This is Acid" (that is: without the otherwise obligatory 303 and somehow not "acidic" at all). It fits perfectly well here, and shows indeed how stunning Liebrand does his great patchwork of samples.

In my opinion Ben Liebrand's remix is - and Im sure many hip hoppers would beat me down for saying this - better than the original. While I love the original, just as anyone who's into oldschool hip hop does, this version increases the 4/4 beat element making this an interesting mix of oldschool hip hop with classic Acid House sounds.

It samples First Choices "Let No Man Put Asunder" (with "It's not over!") and Mr Fingers' "Can You Feel It?" as well as (i think) a version of "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" (with the line "There's not a problem that I can't fix, cause I can do it in the mix")

A seriously cool remix. But if you don't know the original, make sure you familiarise yourself with it too (the original samples Chic's "Good Times" for it's bass line).

I think that this pressing was only available on green vinyl. The inner sleeve was brown paper with the Vogue logo at the top.

I've got this record in light green vinyl. Maybe there are more colors?
