Reviews & Discussion

By the time I listened to this release, my taste for trance was diminishing. It's undoubtedly some of the best, most well-produced, most interesting, most entrancing music out there, but the darker vibe and tribal mood was not for me - I sought the grooves of hip hop and house music. But denying this album it's mark in history as one of the greatest electronic albums is pure injustice. It defines everything I think of when I hear the word "trance", and as much as that word has been made dirty by pop music these days, this album is trance like you've never heard it before. For any early classic trance enthusiast, not having this album in your collection is akin to not having any Beatles albums in your rock collection.

Apart from the goofy cover, this is a wonderful album, probably one of Sven Väth's most distinct ones. L'Esperanza is, in my opinion, one of Sven Väth's best tracks. Ritual Of Life is quite similar to it, but not quite as good.

Then, there's two very unusual tracks on this CD, Merry-Go-Round Somewhere, and Coda, which both feature not much more than a Medieval-sounding piano playing something close to classical music.

Apart from the music, the CD booklet contains a nice Shakespeare-style poem... How could you not like this release!?

I think it's the most unknown kind of music made by sven väth. Maybe it's one of his best styles.
Ritual of Life creates so real images by soundscapes, so it turned in the last 10 years to my favorite afterparty hymn. (only cosmic babys "Melbourne-Mexico-New York" can reach this) ;)
