This mix has a tracklisting no-one would have imagined, judging from previous "The Sound Of The... Season" Mixes ! It took me quite a while to accustom myself to this advanced , partly wiered, partly new wave styled electro house sounds. NOW i am about to listen to the MIX-CD for the 5th time in a row...There are very few DeeJays , that can take you on a musical journey -Sven is an expert in creating long adventurous musical trips into the unknown...He's a legend , no-one else has played 16 hours sets or plays at least 3-5 hour sets on a regular basis. Technically not one of the best deejays, his biggest talent is Track-selection and creating an ongoing vibe. He succeeds here, one more time. Even better than on most previous sets, where he either tried to stick to a ceratain sound ( straight advanced Techno on First Season and his part on the Sound Of The Third SEASON - LIVE with Richard Hawtin) or to play the best tracks of the year to educate the masses and give everybody the opportunity to get the most important tracks of the season as e did on Sound Of The Second and especially on the last installment . The hardest rocking trax on the first CD and the most played minimal undergroud electro-tech-house anthems on the second CD of "THE SOUND OF THE FOURTH SEASON (DIAS/NOCHE) Double CD last year. Now he choosed lesser known and played tunes , to take even Techno-experts and long-time followers on a fresh and unexpectaed journey (the only tune i have in my vinyl-collection from these 12 Songs is TIMBUKTU - Pan-African Electro Dub by Jerome Sydenham) and TIEFSCHWARZ Feat. Eric D Clarke BLOW, which appears on the DoCD MIX/CD Collection MISCH MASCH by TIEFSCHWARZ.. The rest is often completely unknown land to me ( "!!!" / CLIENT, GOLDFRAPP etc...) watched the DVD with an excerpt from a Sven Väth Mix at his Cocoon Club in Ibiza's Amnesia.. I skipped the first tracks, but when i reached Dave Clarke -JUST RIDE in that fantastic James Ruskin's Re-Edit the sound + lights grabbed me . Together with Adam Jay's mighty BRACE FOR IMPACT the whole Club was bright and the crowd eating Sounds from Sven's palms.. The beautiful ambience of the COCOON CLUB / IBIZA shined to the max and SVEN celebrated his role as the Master Of Cermonies. Together with those fine Dancers the place oozed pleasure and hedonism.
I am pretty sure, many will hate on Sven's new style, but he is a man on a Mission, 40 years old and still looking for the Sound of NOW.
In 2004 it is this Acid drenched Electro House , that got people excited.... Sven adapts to that sound and finds means to lead the way. The DVD holds another highlight : ALTER EGO : LIVE at The Cocoon Club / IBIZA with this years mightiest Smash- Hit = "ROCKER" in an ecstatic and lextended version. The interview with Sven is relaxed, entertaining + very informative - even for long time followers and fans.
For that high price ( 23 € for the CD/DVD Set) he could have added another mix from Frankfurt's Cocoon Club or give other Cocoon Residents a chance to shine with a DJ Set. The format of a DVD would have left enough space for that. Like this it is not really that much of an extra-value.
