I have to hand it to Ultra; I never saw this coming at all, and I was a little skeptical at first. But after repeated listening, I can honestly say that Tommie Sunshine really loves his work. In this 2-disc comp, you can tell he has a strong indie-rock sensibility with transforming rock songs into dancefloor anthems. And the alterna-heads will no doubt pogo all over the floor when this comes on the system at their next house party. From veterans like Gang of Four to upstarts like Panic!, everyone is invited to jam. BTW, on disc 1, when "Mama's Room" mixes into "Here (In Your Arms)", you can't help but smile when these two tracks play; if you can't, you have no heart. This may not convert hardcore electronic fans into all-out rock'n'rollers, but it definitely serves as a nice bridge between the two styles. For anyone who believes in genre-less bliss and is not afraid to blast this from their car stereo with no fear of retribution. Dance among the ruins; haters, be damned. Can't wait for Volume 2.
