Original retail shareware release that which the owner could unlock the full Quake game and purchase the additional id Software titles included on the Quake disc. The process was done over the phone in which an unlock code was purchased. It was a very innovative feature for its time. Shortly after its release however, a program called qcrack.exe, which generated the unlock codes for the software, became widepsread on the internet. It was reported that some versions of the shareware did not work with the qcrack.
